Artist's Description
Doing a portrait was a literal departure from my abstract obsession, and working with colored pencils after so much digital art felt strange yet wonderfully familiar. This was commissioned by the little girl’s doting grandma, and she was very happy with the result. There is a mystery to the expression. The pink hoodie resembles a fairy tale cloak. I had the good fortune to draw a magical creature! Posted with permission.
About Suki Michelle
After a childhood consumed by dedicated doodling, Suki studied drawing and painting at Kansas City Art Institute, earning a BFA. After graduating, she traveled the world to study Transcendental Meditation and taught the technique for years. Suki also enjoys a creative outlet in the literary arts. In 2014, she won First Place in the Women on Writing Flash Fiction Competition. In 2016, she won First Place in the Faulkner Literary Competition, Poetry Division. She works impulsively with underlying intent - throwing down colors and shapes then conferring with them to see what they want. Is it contrast, harmony, a statement, something absurd?
