Artist's Description
I wrote this poem at a time when I felt overwhelmed by my extreme sensitivity and newfound perceptions and knowledge Now that I’m retired, I can indulge in the therapeutic outlet of daily painting, and I realize that uncomfortable sensitivity is more of a power than a burden. It’s gratifying to meld the literary and visual arts into one piece, and I will be doing more.
About Suki Michelle
After a childhood consumed by dedicated doodling, Suki studied drawing and painting at Kansas City Art Institute, earning a BFA. After graduating, she traveled the world to study Transcendental Meditation and taught the technique for years. Suki also enjoys a creative outlet in the literary arts. In 2014, she won First Place in the Women on Writing Flash Fiction Competition. In 2016, she won First Place in the Faulkner Literary Competition, Poetry Division. She works impulsively with underlying intent - throwing down colors and shapes then conferring with them to see what they want. Is it contrast, harmony, a statement, something absurd?
